Narine and Lynn run riot in Bangalore

IPL 2017: Resurgent Kings XI Punjab take on out-of-sorts Royal Challengers

Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine were in incredible form with the bat to power Kolkata Knight Riders to an impressive win over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.

After RCB posted 158 runs for the loss of six wickets, KKR batsmen came down with a objective and reached 159 runs by losing just four wickets. When he walked in with Gambhir against Kings XI Punjab in Kolkata's first home match, their opponents were caught unaware. After winning the toss, Kolkata opted to bowl first and restricted an already languishing RCB to a total of 158. With Chris Lynn not yet up to full fitness, we can also expect Narine to open the innings.

Even before the match began at the scheduled time (4:00 p.m.), a hot sunny day turned cloudy and rain gods gathered to pour an hour later when the home team's other opener Mandeep Singh was batting with 48 from 38 balls and middle order batter Travis Head was at 35 in 29 balls. "I'm surprised too. Lynn just said keep your eyes on the ball". Mandeep then came up with his half-century and so did Head.

The West Indies left-hander - not previously noted for his run-scoring prowess - shone after worldwide team-mate Chris Gayle had flopped, racing to 50 off just 15 deliveries to mirror the feat of KKR colleague Yusuf Pathan against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014. It was in the final over of the innings when he finally unleashed his fury on KKR. And despite the team slowing down after the two got out, the damage was done. Lynn scored 50 after returning from a shoulder injury which ruled him out for a month, while Narine hit a 17-ball 54 as the visitors overhauled RCB's total of 158/4 easily.

The real fireworks started once KKR went out to bat, with Narine suddenly looking every inch an opener, albeit against a bowling attack that lacked cohesion.

On another day, Chris Lynn would have taken the headlines for his 22-ball 50.

Having taken the IPL by storm with his unbeaten 93 in a record opening partnership of 184 with KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir in the team's opener against Gujarat Lions, this was Lynn's second highest IPL score of this season.
