A statement, carried by North Korean news agency KCNA, said the alleged plot included the use of "biochemical substances including radioactive substance and nano poisonous substance".
Well, it turns out North Korea really believes that the US and South Korea have been working together to kill Kim by using biochemical weapons.
North Korea - which in the past has made similar, unverified statements - also vowed to "ferret out and mercilessly destroy" what it branded "terrorists" recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency and South Korea's IS.
The state says a "bio-chemical substance" was the main weapon involved in an assassination attempt orchestrated by American and South Korean intelligence.
North Korea regularly lashes out at the US and South Korea, though the allegations lodged Friday were more specific than usual.
The KCNA report claimed the plot was "recently uncovered and smashed", and accused members of the Central Intelligence Agency and IS of working with a North Korean citizen to provide money and weapons to carry out "state-sponsored terrorism".
The latest allegations were reported by AFP news agency amid heightened tensions over a series of weapons tests carried out by the totalitarian state.

This comes as a number of high-profile missile tests by North Korea has angered those in the region including the South, Japan and China.
Kim has continued North Korea's nuclear weapons program in spite of worldwide pressure to shut it down.
Vice President Mike Pence cautioned that the country's long-standing policy of "strategic patience" toward North Korea was over during a visit to South Korea last month.
South Korea's military "strongly condemned" the drill and warned of "fatal" consequences if the North provoked it.
"Due to the US military provocations that are becoming more explicit day by day, the situation in the Korean peninsula that is already sensitive is being driven to a point close to nuclear war", a North Korean news anchor warned via the media as per a Reuters translation.
The North's Ministry of State Security said terrorism is a common enemy to humankind, but the communist country is blamed for a terrorist attack that killed the estranged half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
