Sega looking to revive 'major IPs'

Sega Could Be Planning To Resurrect Huge IPs

The plan was laid out in a presentation called "The Road to 2020", which laid out business strategies and policies that they plan to implement within the next three years.

It remains to be seen how successful SEGA's "Road to 2020" plan will ultimately be, but based on the early positive results, the future is looking bright for the company and it may get even brighter once some of SEGA's old IPs are finally brought back into the fray. Considering the state of the industry, some of them make more sense than others.

What IPs will be revived by Sega are now under speculation as no other details were revealed in the presentation.

The presentation does not specify precisely which "major IPs" SEGA may be seeking to exhume at this stage, though it does stress the company will also seek to expand existing properties and challenge for potential new franchises.

SEGA will also ensure all ports and games run smoothly on all platforms by focusing on stronger proficiency in game dev tools and engines. Last month, the company launched the original Bayonetta action brawler from developer Platinum Games on PC for the firs time.

Above: Sega's goals for digital and packaged games.

The report notes that SEGA's profits are on a recovery trend following a a business structure reform in 2016, and further growth is expected in the next few years. There is also a desire to "build revenue" by earning more "outsourced developement".

But, in the end, Sega is most focused on IPs.

For me, Sega is sitting on a gem with Nights.
