Yates previously said it created a "compromise situation", but Donald Trump did not fire Flynn until 18 days after the White House was first warned. She warned that Donald Trump's former top security adviser could have risked blackmail because of his ties to Russian Federation. "He also had lied to the Vice President of the United States". And in a new interview with the New Yorker, she discovered a problem that we didn't even know we had: There's no emoji for treason.
Trump fired Yates after she opposed the first version of his travel ban on six Muslim-majority countries.
"Absolutely not. I did not and I would not leak classified information", she said.
"There have been a number of tweets that have given me pause", said Yates when asked about the president's tweet the day of her Capitol Hill testimony last week urging senators to ask her about leaking.
On January 26, Yates informed the White House that Flynn was vulnerable to blackmail by Russia, based on his prior conversations with Russian officials, including Russian Ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Kislyak.
In the pair of interviews published Tuesday, she elaborated on her short-lived tenure at length.
Yates, when asked by CNN's Anderson Cooper if Flynn's Russian Federation ties were illegal, said, "There's certainly a criminal statute implicated by his conduct".
The rest of the New Yorker interview (or, at least a preview of it that will be released in full next week) is a must read, so be sure to check it out.
It turned out it was anything but that. An official briefed on the situation told ABC News that Bharara called Sessions' chief of staff, who agreed with his assessment.
"I called [White House councel] Don McGahn and told him I had a very sensitive matter that I needed to discuss with him that day and it needed to be in person", Yates said.
Trump fired Yates on January 30 after she directed Justice Department lawyers not to defend the Trump administration's executive order on immigration.
Her thoughts immediately flickered to segregation-era legislation aimed to disenfranchise black voters. Spicer then said in a press conference that "the White House didn't get access" to that information until February 2, and thus their full review began only then. "But that's what their goal was". Flynn was only in his White House post for 25 days before being asked to resign.
On March 31, Flynn, via his lawyer, requested immunity as a condition for speaking with members of Congress as part of their investigation into Russian interference in the election.
"I think that this was a serious compromise situation", said Yates of Flynn's Russian Federation connections. Several leading Georgia Democrats, including Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, had long tried to recruit her. She moved up in the ranks under both Republican and Democratic administrations because she was apolitical and was very good at her job.
"I am totally ruling out the governor's race". Two sources told ABC News that the Senate Intelligence Committee described Flynn's proposal as a "non-starter". House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams has already filed paperwork to run, and state Rep. Stacey Evans is said to be seriously considering a race.
Yates dismissed that explanation in her conversation with CNN.
While it is common for some U.S. attorneys to resign from their posts when presidential administrations change, the firing of Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of NY, came as a surprise. David Perdue's seat in 2020. But I don't think it would be a bad question to ask. But I didn't know if something else had been done that maybe I just wasn't aware of.
