Watch Google's 'Visual Positioning Service' AR Tracking in Action

Asus announced at Google I/O that Verizon will be the exclusive wireless provider of the ZenFone AR in the United States. The smartphone also support Google Daydream VR, which makes it the first smartphone to feature both Tango and Daydream technologies.

The Taipei, Taiwan-based consumer electronics manufacturer originally unveiled the ASUS ZenFone AR at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year. The smartphone runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat and support Hi-Res Audio, DTS virtual surround sound, and a 5-magnet speaker.

Pricing for the Asus ZenFone AR has not yet been announced, though Verizon says it will be revealed at the later date. With a Tango-compatible device, such as the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, the camera will utilize VPS to recognize specific objects and landmarks. It also lets people project virtual objects onto their real-world surroundings like a piece of furniture or digital pet.

Tango capabilities means that the phone is capable of motion tracking, depth perception and area learning.

Photographic Maestro: TheZenFone AR is also an accomplished camera smartphone. It's smaller than the gargantuan 6.4-inch IPS LCD display on the Phab2 Pro, making it easier to grip.

2 years ago at I/O, Google introduced Expeditions, an educational tool allowing teachers to take their classes on virtual reality field trips, and it's since been experienced by more than 2 million students around the world. The goal, according to Google, is for Expeditions to be able to easily accommodate both types of lessons. Google also said it plans to bring AR lessons to schools later this fall with the launch of Expeditions AR. There's 6GB of RAM on board, along with 128GB of built-in storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor to keep everything humming along. The device comes with an 8-megapixel front camera and is backed by a 3,300mAh battery.
