But while attempting a rescue, a Coast Guard boat was struck by an eight- to 10-foot breaking wave and lost sight of the man.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Joshua Canup confirmed that the body was found by Hatteras Island Rescue at Frisco Beach in the Outer Banks.

Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched to assist.

The Coast Guard, Salisbury Harbor Master and Police Department, the Merrimack Police Department, and the Newburyport Police responded at about 5:40 p.m.to two people in the water after their boat reportedly capsized in rough seas.

The have been transported to the hospital for treatment, although their condition is unknown.

One person made it to the nearby jetty and was rescued without any reported injuries.

Neither person was wearing their lifejackets at the time of the incident.

Kramer said rescuers were battling winds of up to 20 miles per hour out of the northeast and 8-to-10-foot breaks.

A man was seen being walked off the jetty by a Salisbury firefighter after he got out of the water on the rocks about 6:30 p.m.

"We haven't had track of it or seen the boat since [May 26]", Coast Guard spokesman Jonathan Lally told the Palm Beach Post.

The Coast Guard and first responders will continue the search at first light Wednesday morning.
