Texas toddlers die after being left in car 15 hours

2 Texas toddlers died after being left in car overnight sheriff says

A joint investigation by the Kerr County Sheriff's Office, the Kerrville Police Department, the Texas Rangers Division and Texas Child Protective Services later determined that the two little girls had actually been left in their mother's auto overnight "intentionally", from Tuesday night until about noon Wednesday, while Hawkins and her friends were inside a residence, according to Hierholzer.

Amanda Hawkins, 19, brought her two children to Peterson Regional Medical Center Wednesday, according to the Kerr County Sheriff's Office news release.

He said the charges against her could be upgraded due to the deaths of Brynn Hawkins, 1, and Addyson Overgard-Eddy, 2, at University Hospital on Thursday.

Kerville Police Department, Texas Rangers, Child Protective Services and the Kerr County Sheriff Office investigated the incident and determined the two daughters were actually left in Hawkins' vehicle for more than 15 hours.

Eventually, others urged her to take the children to the hospital, Fox 29 reported. Each count comes with a bond set at $35,000, established when Hawkins was placed in Bexar County Jail. He said it was "the most horrific case of child endangerment he has ever seen in his 37 years of law enforcement".

Two toddler sisters died after their mother intentionally left them in a vehicle for more than 15 hours, law enforcement officials said on Friday.

When little Brynn and Addyson cried during the night, the Walmart employee ignored them even when her friends alerted her, the sheriff told KABB.

Both children died Thursday afternoon.

"I guess I just hesitated for so long", she said.

She had initially told doctors they had suddenly become unconscious after they smelled flowers at a local park.

The sheriff also said Hawkins's male friend slept for a while in the auto during the night but did not take the children out. The Kerr County Sheriff's Office and the Kerrville Police Department are carrying out a joint investigation on this case. Temperatures in the area were in the 80s on Wednesday, suggesting that it was even hotter inside the auto during those afternoon hours.

Hawkins faces two charges of abandoning and endangering.

"We both had kids, and it was nice to hang out", Hawkins said.
