House Intel Committee requests Comey tapes from the White House

Reading the statement Trump lawyer Marc Kasowitz released in response to James Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, much of it is what you'd expect. The President fired Mr Comey last month. "Who would do that?"

"And some of the things that he said just weren't true", Trump said at a news conference in the White House Rose Garden.

Trump added that he would "100 percent" testify under oath and answer questions from special counsel Robert Mueller.

He said he would be happy to speak to special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating allegations that Russian Federation interfered with the 2016 USA presidential election and colluded with Trump's campaign."I would be glad to tell him exactly what I just told you", Trump told a reporter.

Comey's testimony in the most widely anticipated congressional hearing in years will put at center stage a high-stakes clash between two men with vastly different personas. The testimony includes the retelling of a conversation where Trump asked Comey to drop the FBI's investigation into Michael Flynn, a former campaign aide who was named national security adviser.

MORE: Trump's legal team to file complaint with DOJ about Comey leak " Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication", Trump wrote, suggesting that Comey, who was under oath at the hearing, had committed perjury.

The memos might be the best insight into their conversations, though Trump once tweeted that Comey had better hope there are no "tapes" before he leaks anything to the press. He immediately dove into the heart of the fraught political controversy around his firing and whether Trump interfered in the bureau's Russian Federation investigation, as he elaborated on written testimony delivered Wednesday.

Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the committee, both said Thursday they believed Comey's account of the events.

'I don't know if there are tapes, ' he told George Stephanopoulos.

In 2008, the federal appeals court in St. Louis upheld a longer prison term after a judge determined that a defendant had obstructed justice when he told someone "I hope and pray to God you did not say anything about a weapon".

Speaking to reporters a day after Mr Comey testified to the Senate intelligence panel, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said it was "beyond the pale" that Mr Trump had asked Mr Comey, then head of the independent law enforcement agency, for his loyalty.

Several GOP lawmakers pushed Comey, and defended Trump. Sen.

"I'll tell you about that maybe sometime soon", he said.

At a private White House dinner on January 27, just days after the billionaire took office, Comey said Trump appeared to want to "create some sort of patronage relationship" with him.

What most analysts do agree with is that this is primarily political: If Republicans stick with Trump, and they control Congress, and there's no impeachment threat, it's unclear whether the issue ends there because the legal theory's muddy over criminal cases involving presidents. "I took it as a very disturbing thing, very concerning, but that's a conclusion I'm sure the special counsel will work towards to find out the intention and whether that's an offence".

Bruce Green, a professor at Fordham University School of Law, said it would be hard to show Mr Trump meant to impede the Flynn investigation.

Comey also said Trump and his administration tried to "defame" him by spreading "lies, plain and simple", about his firing.

Comey held a press conference saying that while presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was "extremely careless", he would not be recommending charges against her concerning her use of a private email server during her time as secretary of state.
