Sessions to appear before Senate intelligence committee

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Saturday that he plans to testify before the Senate intelligence committee Tuesday, but it was not immediately clear if he would testify in public or private.

Sessions also was expected to get questions about his involvement in the firing of Comey and the news that he offered his resignation to President Trump at one point recently.

Despite Sessions' admitted talks with Kislyak, he has been dogged by questions about possible additional encounters with the ambassador, including at a foreign policy conference more than a year ago at a hotel in Washington.

In a letter to Sen.

Following fired FBI Director James Comey's testimony last week "it is important that I have the opportunity to address these matters in the appropriate forum", Sessions wrote to Shelby, who chairs the Senate appropriations panel he was scheduled to address.

Reports suggesting that USA intelligence discovered an alleged Russian hack of Republican National Committee (RNC) computers during the election campaign emerged yet in late 2016, but no leaks followed. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee on commerce, justice, science and related agencies, and Rep. John Abney Culberson (R-Tex.), chairman of the House Appropriations subcommittee on commerce, justice, science and related agencies.

Trump flatly denies Comey accusations, willing to respond under oath
The fresh hits to Trump's credibility can only further hobble the White House's economic agenda. 'When he's ready, ' Spicer said. Comey also said he took steps to ensure he wrote the memos in a way that it would not be necessary to label them as classified.

One of the "overlooked" details from Thursday, Rather said, is that "Attorney General Sessions is now a marked man" because Comey revealed yet another undisclosed meeting between Sessions and Russian ambassador to the USA and purported spymaster Sergey Kislyak.

Asked Monday if the White House thought Sessions should invoke executive privilege to avoid answering questions about his conversations with Trump, presidential spokesman Sean Spicer replied, "It depends on the scope of the questions". A Justice Department official said that committee hearing probably will be closed to the public. Sessions refused. He may also be under a cloud of suspicion after Comey, in his devastating testimony, suggested the attorney general may have failed to take appropriate steps to protect the Federal Bureau of Investigation chief.

Sessions said Saturday that he was accepting an invitation from the Senate intelligence committee, although that was not immediately confirmed.

Lankford appeared on CBS' "Face the Nation". He removed himself after it emerged that he had met at least twice with the Russian ambassador in 2016, though he had testified at his confirmation hearing that he had not had contact with Russians.

-Feinstein acknowledged she "would have a queasy feeling, too" if Comey's testimony was true that Loretta Lynch, as President Barack Obama's attorney general, had directed him to describe the FBI probe into Hillary Clinton's email practices as merely a "matter" and to avoid calling it an investigation. Feinstein said the Judiciary Committee should investigate. Feinstein is the top Democrat on that panel and a member of both.
