Sessions to face sharp questions on Russia contacts

Here's how you can watch the coverage of the hearing.

The Justice Department said Sessions requested that the hearing, which will begin at 2:30 p.m. (1830GMT), be public. The Justice Department has denied that, saying Sessions stressed to Comey the need to be careful about following appropriate policies.

In March, Sessions recused himself from any inquiry related to the 2016 presidential campaign.

Democratic senators repeatedly criticized Sessions for dispatching Rosenstein to testify Tuesday in his place about the Justice Department's budget to an Appropriations subcommittee.

During his testimony last week, Comey said he had notes of meetings with Trump in which the president asked him for a pledge of personal loyalty and to drop the Russian Federation investigation as it pertained to former national security adviser Flynn.

Comey hinted without elaboration at potentially untoward actions by Sessions when the former G-man told the Senate committee last week the FBI had expected the AG to recuse himself, weeks before he did, from an investigation into contacts between Trump campaign associates and Russian Federation during the 2016 election.

Sessions is set to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday afternoon.

In his appearance on Thursday, Comey said the FBI was aware of information that would have made it "problematic" for Sessions to be involved in investigations into alleged Russian meddling in last year's election.

So did 86-year-old owner Isabelle de Tomaso, who has her first Belmont starter since she started owning thoroughbreds in 2003. The on-call vet said Hollywood Handsome sustained a cut behind his left knee, and it would be closed with staples.

"Two meetings, one very brief after a speech", Sessions said.

President Trump calling the democrats "obstructionists" to his agenda and attacking former FBI Director James Comey as a leaker, even calling his actions, "cowardly". While the hearing will be held in public, there has been no time scheduled - at least as of Monday morning - for Sessions to stick around and testify in a closed hearing to discuss classified matters, according to those aides, who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Meanwhile, the Senate probe into collusion with Russian Federation or obstruction of justice is extending to a Trump Cabinet member, with Attorney General Jeff Sessions in for sharp questioning today by the Senate intelligence committee.

The attorney general could also face questions about whether he met Kislyak on a third occasion.

Ruddy said in an interview Monday with Judy Woodruff of PBS, "I think he's weighing that option". During his January confirmation hearings, while under oath, he told senators he hadn't had any contact with Russian officials. Sessions has insisted his meetings with the Russian ambassador were a normal part of his Senate duties.

Comey also has said Sessions did not respond when he complained he did not "want to get time alone with the President again".

Trump's request, Comey testified, came during an unusual, one-on-one February 14 Oval Office conversation that followed other senior officials briefing Trump on counter-terrorism, including Sessions.

James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press! Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, urging him to investigate possible obstruction of justice by Trump in Grassley's position as chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
