Trump accuses ex-FBI director Comey of cowardice over 'leaks'

House intel panel demands 'Comey tapes' as Trump razzes on their existence

Pelosi is citing Trump's habit of early morning tweeting, as well as Thursday's congressional testimony by former FBI Director James Comey.

Reed says "there's a real question of the propriety" of Sessions' involvement in Comey's dismissal, since Sessions had recused himself from the federal probe into contacts between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

His testimony provided a gripping account of his interactions with President Trump and underscored the discord that had soured their relationship.

"I hardly know the man, I'm not going to say, 'I want you to pledge allegiance"'.

Trump said he is "100 per cent" willing to testify under oath on Comey meetings and tell the FBI Special Consul Robert Muller that he never asked FBI to stop investigating.

It is likely that he will answer questions about the committee's investigation of Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Conaway, a Texas Republican, and Representative Adam Schiff of California, the top-ranking Democrat, announced after the news conference they have asked the White House to produce any recordings or memoranda that might exist of Trump's conversations with Comey.

James Comey was in his New Jersey hometown of Allendale with his father on Sunday, days after testifying before a Senate panel on his meetings with Trump.

Trump's offer to testify heightens the drama of his standoff with Comey, who told senators that Trump had demanded his personal loyalty and had pressured him to drop a counterintelligence investigation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. Comey previously said he handed his memos to a friend, who was identified as Richman.

The former Alabama senator was an early supporter of Donald Trump, and Sessions' contacts during the campaign with Russia's ambassador to the United States have raised questions.

He also accused Qatar, a key USA military partner, of funding terrorism "at a very high level", and said solving the problem in the tiny Persian Gulf nation could be "the beginning of the end of terrorism". "That is a very big deal, and not just because it involves me".

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication", Trump wrote. The other news was that the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director leaked a memo to the press, as if his altruistic reasoning makes him any different from Edward Snowden.

Comey said during his testimony that he asked a friend to release contents of the memos he'd written about his conversations with the president to a reporter.

"WOW, Comey is a leaker!" Mr. Sessions proved he can not even defend a subordinate against Mr. Trump and should resign immediately. And he repeated the charge at the Rose Garden news conference, telling reporters, "He's a leaker".

Former FBI director James B. Comey appears before the Senate Intelligence Committee in the Hart Office Building on June 8 in Washington.

Mr Kasowitz is expected to file a complaint with the Justice Department inspector general next week.

But eventually they conceded, agreeing to a document production schedule with the Senate and providing documents to the House Intelligence Committee this week as well. Any such recordings could prove which man's account is accurate, but the president played coy - saying he would wait "a fairly short period of time" to tell the public whether any tapes exist, as he first suggested they might in May.

"And I think you saw today the overwhelming majority of the intel members, Democrats and Republicans, feel that Jim Comey is credible".
