'Excessive Heat Watch' Issued For The Bay Area This Weekend

Phoenix Las Vegas and Death Valley in California are expected to break previous all-time high records this June even before summer officially starts

"When temperatures are high, even a few hours of exertion may cause severe dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke", said Jeffrey Gunzenhauser, interim health officer of LA County.

The heat warning extends from noon Saturday through 8 p.m. Tuesday. In the Coachella Valley, highs are predicted to be 109 to 114 degrees today, 112 to 117 degrees Sunday, 114 to 119 degrees Monday, 117 to 122 degrees Tuesday and 115 to 120 degrees Wednesday.

The National Weather Services issued a heat advisory Thursday for Northern California areas that include the southern Sacramento Valley and the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta.

Graced with a heat advisory on Friday and the potential for the National Weather Service weather warning this weekend, it's safe to say the 2017 summer season is in full swing for the West Texas and southeastern New Mexico region.

Hikers and others planning to go outdoors are advised to stay in groups, keep hydrated, dress for the heat in light and breathable clothing, take regular breaks and stay indoors if the heat becomes overwhelming.

On Thursday morning, Scalise was in critical condition, undergoing a third operation, MedStar Washington Hospital Center reported. Hodgkinson reportedly was a regular presence in recent weeks on Mount Vernon Avenue, the main commercial street through Del Ray.

"The general rule of thumb for this the advisory is when the maximum heat index temperature is expected to be 100-degrees or higher for at least two days, and night time air temperatures will not drop below 75-degrees", NWS officials explained on their governmental website, http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/heat/ww.shtml.

Nighttime temperatures are expected to be around 60 degrees.

Temperatures upvalley could be substantially hotter.

To start off the weekend, the weather service posted a tweet to remind us why we should be thankful for having a desk job come Monday.

Forecasters advised residents to reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening and authorities also warned against leaving children or pets in parked cars, which can heat up to lethal levels in just minutes.
