Trump Weighs Firing Mueller, According To Confidante

Report: Donald Trump is considering just firing special counsel Robert Mueller

Senior White House aides pushed back on a claim Monday that President Donald Trump is considering directing the deputy attorney general to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is now leading the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. A friend of the president suggested a day earlier that Trump was considering such an ouster.

"I still stand by that it was being considered as an option", said Ruddy, adding he has "very good sources" in the administration.

In 1973, amid the Watergate scandal, President Richard Nixon ordered Attorney General Elliot Richardson to fire special prosecutor Archibald Cox.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein testifies on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, June 13, 2017, before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing on the Justice Department's fiscal 2018 budget.

"The attorney general is the one who has to fire him", said CNN's senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin on "Anderson Cooper 360".

Mr Trump can not directly dismiss Mr Mueller. The president was pleased by the ambiguity of his position on Mr. Mueller, and thinks the possibility of being fired will focus the veteran prosecutor on delivering what the president desires most: "a blanket public exoneration".

It is in this environment of slavish sycophancy that the rumor that Trump is considering firing special counsel Robert S. Mueller, an otherwise unthinkable attack on the independence of the Justice Department, quickly gained currency, igniting a Monday evening media firestorm.

And Andrew Weissman, who oversees fraud cases at the Justice Department, donated six times to PACs for Obama's presidential campaign as well as the DNC in 2006. But the president is going to seek the advice of his counsel and inside the government as well as outside. Look who he is hiring.check fec reports.

"Well, as predicted, the 9th Circuit did it again - Ruled against the TRAVEL BAN at such a risky time in the history of our country", Trump tweeted, ending it with, "S.C.", a reference to the Supreme Court, to which the Trump administration intends to take its case. "His reputation is impeccable for honesty and integrity". National Security Agency Director Michael Rogers and Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, both declined to discuss their own Trump communications during a hearing last week.

Mr Ruddy was at the White House on Monday to meet with White House aides, but did not speak with the president, Press Secretary Sean Spicer said. "Ruddy never spoke to the president regarding this issue", Spicer said. He added, "I think the best vindication for the president is to let this investigation to go on independently and thoroughly".

Several theories abound so far.

Lawmakers, including Al Franken of Minnesota and Patrick Leahy of Vermont, have asked the FBI to investigate and to determine if Sessions committed perjury when he denied having had meetings with Russians. NPR reported last week that Mueller had been on the White House shortlist to succeed Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director before the Justice Department named him as special counsel. "Don't waste our time". "It's very sick", Gingrich told radio host John Catsimatidis. An order from the president would not necessarily qualify, he said.

The act was widely criticized after Kenneth Starr's lengthy investigation into Clinton, and in 1999, Congress allowed the independent counsel provisions of the law to lapse.
