AG Rosenstein sees no reason to fire Mueller

White House Trump won’t sack special counsel Robert Mueller

The interview was first mentioned by Trump friend and Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy in an interview on PBS' "NewsHour" Monday evening. Ruddy's remarks came on the heels of Trump loyalists growing louder with their calls that Mueller should be removed from heading up the Russian Federation probe. He described Mueller as operating independently from the Justice Department in his investigation.

Chris Ruddy, a friend of Trump's and the chief executive of Newsmax, a United States news outlet, went so far as to suggest the president was already thinking about "terminating" Mueller. In a major story, The New York Times claimed that Trump was angered by reports that Mueller was close to fired FBI Director James Comey and entertained the idea of firing the special counsel. Lindsey Graham of SC tried to clarify where that line for "good cause" was. "I think he's weighing that option", Ruddy said when asked by host Judy Woodruff if President Trump was prepared to let the special counsel pursue the investigation.

Soon after Ruddy's remarks became public Monday night, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said: "Mr".

A person familiar with Trump's thinking said Tuesday that it is "unlikely" he will fire Mueller, but acknowledged that it is often hard to predict Trump's behavior.

"You're creating a debate that's not happening", interjected House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who stood beside Ryan at a news conference held after a House GOP conference meeting at the Republican National Committee on Capitol Hill.

The deputy attorney general, the second-highest official at the Department of Justice, is managing the Russian Federation investigation at the department following attorney general Jeff Sessions's decision to recuse himself.

"Well, I respect the move, but the entire thing has been a witch hunt". The president subsequently abolished the office of the special prosecutor and turned over to the Justice Department all further responsibility for investigating Watergate.

"I have talked to the president recently but we did not talk about the Mueller situation at all", Ruddy said. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii.

Comey testified to the Senate Intelligence Committee last week that he gave one of his associates, a Columbia professor, permission to share information from memos Comey wrote about his private conversations with Trump.

In his latest flagrant slap to the face of American rule of law, Donald Trump has reportedly considered firing special investigator Robert Mueller, apparently for the mere fact that he is investigating Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, a chorus of Trump supporters, from former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich to commentator Ann Coulter, is assailing Mueller's independence.

Sekulow had said he was "not going to speculate" on whether Trump might remove Mueller but added he "can't imagine the issue is going to arise".

Like Ryan, Ruddy suggested it wouldn't be in Trump's best interest to order the removal of the special counsel, calling it a 'very significant mistake'. "Mr Ruddy never spoke to the president regarding this issue", Spicer said.

Rosenstein said "no, I have not", when asked by Sen.

Mueller was appointed by the Justice Department to helm the investigation after Trump abruptly fired Comey - who was the one previously leading the Russian Federation probe - in early May.
