Alex Jones interview draws 3.5 million viewers

Megyn Kelly

"Airing Ms. Kelly's interview implicitly endorses the notion that Mr. Jones" lies are actually "claims' that are worthy of serious debate, and in doing so it exponentially enhances the suffering and distress of our clients", lawyers Josh Koskoff and Katie Mesner-Hage wrote the network, via A.P. Amid that controversy, the piece that aired Sunday credibly justified covering the Infowars phenomenon, which was the bar that "Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly" ultimately had to clear.

Jones' comments about the Sandy Hook shooting-he continues to argue the murderous rampage was a government-sanctioned hoax-were the main flashpoint for many advertisers and viewers.

Kelly's interview with Jones underwent changes as the call to cancel grew louder.

Multiple advertisers pulled out of Kelly's interview with Jones over his promotion of unfounded conspiracy theories, including one that the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax made up in order to push new gun control measures. "But then you look at all the other evidence on the other side, I could see how other people believe that nobody died there".

"Parents should never have to bury their own children", Jones said. Soundbites from a father who lost his son in Sandy Hook and conservative writer Charlie Sykes were effective in driving home the point.

Jones dubbed the interview as "fake news" before it even aired, and started releasing secretly recording recordings with Kelly in an attempt to show her dishonesty in the process. An unaired segment obtained by Huffington Post showed Kelly telling him that "virtually every person we have met on the street says what they respect about you is they feel that you have returned dignity to Russian Federation".

Kelly has stood by her decision to allow Jones to share his story.

"I will sit there on the air and look at every position and play devil's advocate", he said.

"I think my influence on Trump is way, way lower than what MSM (mainstream media) has said", he commented, saying he and the president were "friendly", but not friends.

The Kelly interview was a "heavily edited overview of who Jones is", according to New York Magazine.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The publicity and uproar in the days before Sunday's broadcast of Megyn Kelly's interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones didn't translate into ratings.
