Ford To Invest In KY Truck Plant

Ford (NYSE:F) announces it will invest $900M in a truck plant in Kentucky that builds the Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models.

"It meant a lot that they would believe in us, and we are going to continue to build world class vehicles", said Local 862 President Todd Dunn. This investment comes hot on the heels of a $1.3 billion investment in 2015 to build the Ford Super Duty pickup at this same plant.

Ford said that importing the Focus from China will actually save $500 million as compared to importing it from Mexico, on top of another $500 million saved by canceling plans for a new factory in San Luis Potosi. This means that all North American Focus production will cease with the next generation of the auto, but American jobs will remain secure at the MI plant.

Added Gov. Matt Bevin: "We are ecstatic that Ford has chosen to make this additional investment here, securing the futures of 1,000 of its employees, and we will continue to work closely with the company to ensure its long term success".

You had us at "performance vehicles", Mr. Hinrichs. "Ford has found a great workforce here in our city".

"Large SUVs are attracting a new generation around the world - and we're finding new ways to deliver the capability, versatility and technology that customers around the world really want with our all-new Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator", said Joe Hinrichs, Ford executive vice president and president, Global Operations. They see a good workforce here.

The company notes that it exports the two truck lines to over 55 global markets.
