Man who shot congressman was living in van, called a loner

James Hodgkinson 66 of Bellevile Illinois was identified as the suspect in a shooting Wednesday morning

Sue Hodgkinson said pleadingly. Capitol police guarding the House majority whip then fatally shot Hodgkinson.

Among the many remaining questions for investigators is whether Hodgkinson - a 66-year-old unemployed home inspector from the St. Louis suburb of Belleville, Illinois - had long planned Wednesday's assault and possibly studied the movements of lawmakers in the months he spent living in his van in northern Virginia.

Suzanne Hodgkinson, who spoke to the press at her home Thursday afternoon, said she had "no idea" her husband was going to shoot at people during a practice for a congressional baseball game in Alexandria, Virginia.

The firearms recovered after a gunman opened fire on a Republican congressional baseball practice and injured five people in Alexandria, Virginia, appear to have been purchased legally, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other authorities said Thursday.

Walsh said he hired his friend to do some work for him a couple of years ago, but hadn't seen him around town recently.

"Most of the bartenders here are women", and he "came off a little creepy, apparently."
And she wouldn't go into anything about his politics but did add this detail that he sold everything he owned from his businesses. He ran a home inspection business until previous year, when he lost his license.

The gunman opened fire at the Republicans as a result of which Steve Scalise, the No. 3 Republican in the House of Representatives was shot in the hip. And it was at that auto shop that his anger flared during small talk with the mechanic.

A Facebook page belonging to a person with the same name includes pictures of Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders, and rhetoric against President Trump, including a post that reads: "Trump is a Traitor". Democrats, advocates of stronger gun control legislation, appeared reluctant to re-open the debate but Trump supporter and former House speaker Newt Gingrich denounced what he said was "the increasing intensity of hostility on the left". It wasn't 'Hey, do you mind if I used the bike?' It was like, 'Hey, you're in my way. His voice got loud and deep.

He needed several blood transfusions, remains in critical condition and will require more operations, MedStar Washington Hospital Center said late Wednesday.

Federal law enforcement said he was living out of his vehicle from March until June. She declined to discuss his political views, saying that "he really didn't say much". He was a fiery guy, known for the occasional bar fight. Capitol Police said they had "no evidence to suggest that the purchases were not lawful".
