Tampa leaders won't remove Confederate memorial

WATCH Crews remove Confederate statue from Lake Eola Park

Schnurr is an encyclopedia of history knowledge and said she already knew there was a time capsule in the monument long before it was discovered Tuesday morning.

"Especially a hundred years ago, especially the Masons always put time capsules in cornerstones, and we were kind of anticipating that there would be one", said Price.

This story has been corrected to show supporters of removing the statue said they were deeply disappointed in the idea of a mural.

The time capsule is about the size of a small money box, weighs about three pounds and may have been in the statue for more than 100 years.

The Hillsborough County Commission voted 4-3 Wednesday not to remove a statue that was erected in Tampa in 1911.

Trump attorney says president not under investigation
Insiders are anxious about links between Jared Kushner's current lawyer, Jamie S. On Sunday, Trump again called the investigation a "witch hunt".

The 50 foot confederate section of the cemetery was approved by the City Council in 1893 to honor the confederate veterans of the Civil War.

A Confederate statue is seen in a small park in Tampa, Fla., Wednesday, June 21, 2017.

The statue, nicknamed "Johnny Reb", will instead be moved to the Confederate soldier section of the historic Greenwood Cemetery. Overall, the process is expected to take about six weeks.

Price says the Greenwood Cemetery is an appropriate place for the statue because so many of Orlando's historical figures are buried here in the same section, including Orlando Mayor William Jewell and Andrew Jackson Barber, who founded a cattle and agricultural dynasty across Central Florida.

But unlike other remnants from the Civil War, this monument - paid for by the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1910 - has never previously been the source of discussion until now. Last fall, Gainesville residents debated whether to move "Old Joe", a 112-year-old statue of a Confederate soldier next to a county government building.
