Total solar eclipse casts spotlight on rural Oregon town

Visibility related facts about the total solar eclipse in the US

A total eclipse has not covered regions of the contiguous U.S. since 1979.

Some in the US will even be able to see a total solar eclipse, where the moon will completely cover the sun.

The US will be the only country to experience the total eclipse, and global visitors are expected to descend for the event.

- The only safe way to look at the partially eclipsed sun is through special solar filters like "eclipse glasses", or through handheld solar viewers.

This August, the US will experience its first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in 99 years. They rarely practiced human sacrifice, but a wave of killing would follow solar eclipses.

A total solar eclipse occurs once every 18 months.

Canadian astrophysicist Jesse Rogerson, of the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, says it'll be an "unprecedented" opportunity for North American skywatchers to catch a glimpse of this rare occurrence, which hasn't occurred over the USA since 1918.

Kim on blackface accusation
Her own Kylie Cosmetics brand made her the youngest celebrity to appear on this year's Forbes 100 list at just 19 years old. They can both have makeup lines. "We don't really talk to each other about what we're doing and what our formulas are".

"The eclipse will provide a unique opportunity to study the sun, Earth, moon and their interaction because of the eclipse's long path over land coast to coast", the National Air and Space Agency said in a statement.

On August 21, 14 states will experience about two minutes of darkness as the eclipse crosses from coast to coast.

Special Note for those viewing from the Path of Totality: when viewing an eclipse from the path of totality, there is a roughly 2-minute period when it is safe, and in fact encouraged, to look at a total solar eclipse without eye protection.

The event will take place on August 21, 2017. It is the first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse to span the United States since 1918.

The path of totality, which ranges about 60 to 71 miles in width, will pass through 14 states: Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia and SC; and small portions of Montana and Iowa. You will see the solar corona - the heated atmosphere of the sun radiating behind the shadow of the moon.

"Going through life without ever experiencing "totality" is like going through life without ever falling in love". The path is thin, only around 70 miles wide. The sun will not know about the eclipse. For the US, the next total solar eclipse will occur on April 8, 2024.
