$10B Foxconn plant promises 3000 jobs for Wisconsin

Workers put up scaffolding on a building owned by the contract manufacturer Foxconn International Holdings Ltd

President Donald Trump and Foxconn Technology Group Chairman Terry Gou said in a White House press conference on Wednesday that the factory will initially employ about 3,000 people, before expanding to as many as 13,000.

State Rep. Samantha Kerkman, R-Salem Lakes, said she also has high hopes for the plant. Other states vying for the plant were Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas. He also expressed concerns over the company making big announcements and not following them up.

The announcement Wednesday comes at a critical juncture for a Trump administration that pledged to generate manufacturing jobs but has struggled to deliver results as quickly as the president promised. Donald Trump praised Terry Gou, the chairman for Foxconn, while also firmly iterating how he being president of U.S. has brought about this decision. "In other words, if I didn't get elected, he definitely wouldn't be spending $10 billion dollars", Trump said.

On that same day, Amazon said it planned to hire 50,000 people at its U.S. fulfillment centers, including a sprawling facility in Kenosha, not far from Foxconn's potential new sites. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker said at the White House that the state intends to award $3 billion in incentives, a package that has yet to be approved by the state's legislature.

The average salary for the jobs will be almost $54,000, suggesting some of the higher-end positions will be engineers, software developers and people proficient in computer-assisted design, Still said.

Foxconn is expected to select a 1,000-acre site in southeast Wisconsin and could be eligible for some additional local incentives, officials said.

The firm will invest $10 billion in Wisconsin to build a new manufacturing plant that produces LCD panels. It just-so-happens to be located within Speaker of the House Paul Ryan's congressional district.

Gary Woodland flirts with course record, settles for 63 at Canadian Open
On Sunday, a controversial vote called by President Nicolas Maduro to put more power into his hands will take place. One source suggested The Greenbrier Classic, now played in early July three weeks after the U.S.

The United States has added 70,000 manufacturing jobs since November, bringing the total to almost 12.4 million, but has not added any net factory jobs in the last two months, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics.

The Taiwanese electronics manufacturer is a major supplier to Applec Inc. Cutting-edge technology will be made in America, right here in Wisconsin.

Critics have cautioned that Foxconn has made promises before to invest in the USA and not followed through.

Others are concerned about the company's ability to follow through on agreements; in 2013, Foxconn planned to invest $30 million to build a factory in Pennsylvania, but it was never built.

The governor has called a special session, set for next Tuesday.

It would include up to $1.5 billion in state income tax credits for jobs created, up to $1.35 billion in credits for capital investment and up to $150 million in sales tax exemptions on construction materials.

And Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca, D-Kenosha, who also represents southeastern Wisconsin said he welcomes the project but said unanswered questions about its impact remain.
