Pakistan's Supreme Court sacks PM Sharif

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Disqualified from Public Office

Interesting reactions have been received from across the community following the Supreme Court's verdict on Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's high-profile graft case with some describing it just a momentary relief while others contemplate its moral impact on the ousted prime minister.

Born on 23 September, 1951, Shehbaz is the son of late Mian Muhammad Sharif and brother of Nawaz.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been shortlisted by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) to act as an interim Prime Minister of Pakistan before electing Shehbaz Sharif to the post, report suggests.

The ruling PML-N party has a strong majority in parliament so should have no problem appointing its choice as the new prime minister.

Abbasi is now the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources in Pakistan.

The law under Article 62 also states that he who shall be elected a Member of Parliament should be sagacious, righteous and non-profligate, honest and ameen, there being no declaration to the contrary by a court of law, Malik said in a recent opinion piece in The Nation.

The five judges reached a unanimous verdict in the Islamabad court, which was filled to capacity.

Claims about the lavish lifestyles and luxury London property portfolio of the Sharif dynasty played out for months in endless loops in the country's raucous news media.

"They are family parties", he said.

Amid political upheaval, Pakistan's military stands as the most stable institution in the country. The election of the interim Prime Minister will take place on Tuesday.

It was his first public response to Friday's court ruling.

Under Sharif, Pakistan has experienced economic growth and a marked drop in terrorism.

But Pakistanis were divided on whether it set the country's democratic progress back, with supporters, commentators and some corners of the country's press slamming the ruling as a "judicial coup".

Although opposition leader Imran Khan is the main beneficiary of the court's removal of the prime minister by the judiciary, he could not stop Sharif party from powerful role in the politics, she told Xinhua. It is only then that Shehbaz could be elected as the next prime minister of Pakistan.

He had not openly defended his uncle (Nawaz Sharif) in the Panama Papers case, choosing not to comment too much on the issue.

Cordial relations with India and Afghanistan will be a hard task for the new leader but he will have to honor Nawaz Sharif's pledges for good neighborly relations. He was also the Federal Minister of Commerce in the Yousaf Raza Gillani cabinet.
