Police Across The Country Slam Trump's Aggressive Law-And-Order Speech

Donald Trump was speaking close to where the MS-13 street gang has committed a number of murders. His administration has moved to reduce federal scrutiny of rights abuses in local police forces

"I said please don't be too nice", President Trump said. Like when you put somebody into a auto and you protect their head?.

"The SCPD has strict rules & procedures relating to the handling of prisoners", it tweeted following the president's speech.

The president suggested that officers should hit suspects' heads on the doors of their police cars.

Goff also said that he has spoken to police chiefs and officers who are "disgusted" by "the president's statements ― and the applause" it received. "Like, don't hit their head and they've just killed somebody".

His remarks elicited cheers from the audience of law enforcement, which included local lawmakers, officers from the Suffolk County Police Department, the Nassau County Police Department acting police commissioner Patrick Ryder, Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent DeMarco and deputies and jail guards from the Suffolk County Sheriff's office, according to Newsday reporter Nicole Fuller.

I think he is doing our nation a disservice by encouraging police departments to engage in unlawful, unconstitutional behaviour. Clearly, some humor is in bad taste and we will surely get some that attack us for seemingly defending the President's words but seriously, is there so much hatred for President Trump and law enforcement that the clear joke can not be seen?

Police departments across the United States have been accused countless times over the years of using excessive force against suspected criminals, particularly when those suspects are black. Violations of those rules are treated extremely seriously, ' the Friday afternoon tweet read.

The president was in his home state talking about the fight against violent gangs like MS-13.

The department may have felt more need than most to distance itself from the president's comments as its officers were among those in the backdrop of the event and because a former police chief was convicted a year ago of beating a handcuffed theft suspect and orchestrating a cover-up of the incident.

The Los Angeles Police Department also released a statement regarding Trump's speech. You do something wrong, you're in more jeopardy than they are.

"The President of the United States has no business endorsing or condoning cops being rough with arrestees and suggesting that we should slam their heads onto the auto while putting them in", the department said in a Facebook post.

"President Trump's speech today was shameful, dangerous, and damages the progress our City has made toward improving police-community relations".

New York Civilian Complaint Review Board Chairwoman Maya D. Wiley criticized the president for undoing trust between police and communities in the city.

Trump made the remarks Friday while speaking to law enforcement officers on Long Island.

"Needlessly equipping officers in a manner more suited to a battlefield than Main Street automatically places them in a confrontational stance with the people they are sworn to protect", said Zeke Johnson, senior director of programs at Amnesty International USA.
