Microsoft's new payment plan makes Surface devices more affordable

Microsoft launches Surface Plus upgrade plan

Microsoft's Surface Plus program will let you pay for the device in installments and upgrade after 18 months.

Microsoft has announced two new programs today that the company hopes will make it easier for organizations to buy Surface hardware. Instead of paying the entire cost of a laptop or tablet upfront, this new plan spreads payments over two years on a contract.

"The latest devices: Previously unavailable, customers can now finance a 55" Surface Hub in addition to the new Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, Surface Book, and Surface Studio to unlock the power of the group in their businesses. The main thing is the hardware you're intending to swap must be in "good condition".

You can enroll in Surface Plus from Microsoft's online store, or at the physical Microsoft Stores. There are plenty of deals to go around, and Microsoft is even directing parents and students to enjoy a $100 extra savings on select laptops, and 10% on Surface by checking out great Student Deals available at Best Buy.

Multiple Surface models: Customers can add as many devices as they want into a single agreement and can have a mix of models across the Surface portfolio.

I priced out a top-of-the-line Surface Pro 2017, i7, 16 GB, 1 TB storage, Iris Plus, Extended Service, and came to a total of $2,848, or $119 per month with Klarna financing (formerly Kreditor), plus sales tax. The 18-month upgrade option specifically requires you to upgrade to another Microsoft product and use Klarna again for 24-month financing.

In the companies complete back to school post on the official Windows blog they also talk about Windows 10 S, Office 365 for Education, and other OEM partners hardware that could also help students be more productive in their school studies.

The Surface Plus and Surface for Plus for Business are available for USA customers and businesses online and in-store. Businesses can also expand or reduce their device fleet mid-term. A version for businesses, called Surface Plus for Business, allows for variable lease terms and upgrades as often as ever 12 months.

Customers also have the option to add the Microsoft Complete extended service plan.
