Two days in Phoenix, two babies dead in hot cars

The 7-month-old boy was found in the car this afternoon unresponsive but was later pronounced dead

Police also said the baby was unresponsive when the father reached the church, meaning the baby was left in the auto to this.

The infant had apparently been left in the vehicle for about two hours by his father, who forgot the boy, police said.

Fortune said- no arrests had been made as of Saturday night.

Phoenix police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune later identified the dead child as Josiah Riggins.

Family members began gathering at the church to support parents shortly after it happened, "it's shocking, devastating just sad " said Zettica Mitchell who said was a cousin n of the baby's father you feel like something that could happen to anybody".

The one-year-old female was left in the vehicle for about two hours, according to initial reports from Phoenix Fire Department.

Investigators believe Josiah died there, so that city's police department is taking over the investigation.

Last week, with temperatures regularly topping 100 degrees, it happened twice in a 24-hour period.

News reports that the first child, a 7-month-old infant, was found dead inside a auto in a northeast Phoenix neighborhood on Friday.

The baby died from heatstroke after being left in the care of his grandparents, according to local media.

According to the safety organization Kids and Cars, an average of 37 children die each year in hot cars. Both of the child's parents are cooperating with police; it's unknown if the father will face any charges.

"We hear that parents are saying they forgot their babies in their vehicles", she said, according to the Republic.
