NASA Hiring Planetary Protection Officer

Catharine

The planetary protection officer will be expected to lead "planning and coordination of activities related to NASA mission planetary protection needs", as well as other duties, which you can find here. You see, most alien life, we've predicted, may exist is microorganisms - and nobody has any idea what alien bacteria might do to humans.

The job also involves keeping samples safe from "extraterrestrial targets" brought back to Earth, Fox News reported. Candidates are required to have "broad engineering expertise", a degree in either physical science, engineering or mathematics, and "skills in diplomacy that resulted in win-win solutions during extremely hard and complex multilateral discussion". Applications are open until August 14 this year.

Think of it as a real-life "Man in Black": NASA is now looking to hire someone to protect the planet from aliens.

The federal space agency is seeking to hire a Planetary Protection Officer who would help thwart the spread of extraterrestrial life ― "intentionally or unintentionally" ― on Earth and to outside solar systems.

Business Insider reported that the position to be vacated by current incumbent Catharine A Conley, will pay up to $187,000 plus benefits. Only NASA and the European Space Agency have full-time positions for the role.

The job is to ensure that nothing alien makes it to Earth, and that humans don't contaminate space places. The post is for an initial period of three years but may be extended for an additional two, cnbc.com reported.

She said, of these chances, that "It's a moderate level, not extremely careful, but it's not extremely lax".

The job ad notes that "frequent travel may be required", and candidates are expected to have broad engineering expertise, as well as an "advanced knowledge" of planetary protection. Not much of a surprise there; protecting the planet is sure to present plenty of challenges for a person.
