Stop making territorial claims on Bhutan's behalf: China tells India

If China attacks India will respond with the same aggression- letter to Xi Jinping

China on Thursday accused India of escalating tensions along their disputed border, adding troops and building up roads high in the Himalayas in a monthlong standoff between the world's two most populous nations.

With the face-off between Indian and Chinese troops in Doklam now threatening to extend into the third month, the representatives from India, Bhutan and other members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) attended an event in New Delhi on Monday to mark the PLA's 90th anniversary.

He also said that India should avoid making boastful claims of isolating Pakistan. However, India has flatly rejected these reports, claiming that it hasn't withdrawn any troops. China's road building on its own territory is aimed at improving local transportation, which is completely lawful and legitimate.

Revealing part details of the bilateral meeting between Doval and his Chinese counterpart and State Councillor Yang Jiechi in Beijing on the sidelines of the BRICS NSAs meeting in Beijing on July 27-28, China's Foreign Ministry indicated that there was no breakthrough during the talks.

"No matter how many Indian border troops illegally trespassed the boundary and still stay in the Chinese territory, it will not alter the nature of severely violating China's territorial integrity and contravening the UN Charter". The ambiguity of a nineteenth-century treaty has put Beijing and New Delhi at odds over whether China can extend a road through this forbidding territory right up to the border with India.

To cross a delimited boundary and enter the territory of a neighboring country on the grounds of so-called "security concerns", for whatever activities, runs counter to the basic principles of worldwide law and basic norms governing global relations.

"We will keep patience to resolve the issue", she said referring to the Dokalam stand-off issue with China. While according to the new friendship treaty signed between India and Bhutan states that it is mandatory for Bhutan to take India's guidance on foreign policy. It has nothing to do with India.

It alleged that India had trespassing into Doklam region, which China sees as its territory but India and Bhutan see as Bhutanese.

"In addition, there are still a large number of Indian armed forces congregating on the boundary and on the Indian side of the boundary", Geng said.

China's foreign ministry had earlier issued a 15-page statement claiming that the number of Indian soldiers keeping vigil at the Doklam region had fallen to 40 by the end of July from the peak of about 400. This is a prerequisite and basis for resolving the incident.' it added.

Singh also said that both countries are committed to a "fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary question through dialogue and peaceful negotiations".

Union Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj today responded sharply to the Opposition's charge of spoiling relations with its neighbours and seeking the government's roadmap for dealing with China amid the ongoing standoff.
