Sri Lanka completely outplayed by India, accepts captain Chandimal

Cheteshwar Pujara breaks Sachin's record

Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli was visibly pleased with the team's performance after the second Test against Sri Lanka held at the SSC in Colombo.

Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin (5-69) claimed his 26th five-wicket haul as he and spin partner Ravindra Jadeja (2-84) tormented Sri Lanka on a deteriorating pitch that allowed for prodigious spin, with the ball often kicking up puffs of dust.

He said the Sri Lankans are scheduled to tour India after the Pakistan series and that is why they wanted the series in UAE to start in late September.

However, after Sri Lanka were all out for 183 in the first innings in reply to India's 622, it was always going to be a catch-up game for the hosts.

As Sri Lanka have shown, they aren't the strongest opposition anymore, even though that can be a little bit of a double-edged sword.

"Success will come your way but you need patience. So, we have to give credit to the batsmen there", he concluded. We fought hard, said Chandimal. There is no point having expectations on getting wickets like in the first innings all over again and getting frustrated if you don't get wickets.

Kohli now has 18 wins under his belt-only three less than India's second-most successful captain Sourav Ganguly (21). "We will make a plan in the future and try to execute that". Remember Lord's, remember Dharamsala against Australia, those are very important innings, the 90 against England in Mohali.

But India will have to make do without him in the final Test starting Saturday in Pallekele, after the International Cricket Council slapped Jadeja with a one-match ban and a fine for unsafe play.

"If we can believe enough in our abilities then we are not really bothered about where we are playing. We are creating a habit of winning", quipped Kohli.

However, India will badly miss Jadeja's services in the third and final Test starting Saturday in Pallekele, after the ICC slapped the all-rounder with a one-match ban and a fine for risky play.

"I think it was very good for us, from a team's point of view that we were up against a challenge in the last four sessions that we played yesterday and today". Jadeja threw the ball at Dimuth Karunaratne off his own bowling when the batsman was inside the crease and the umpire ruled it "dangerous".

He added that although the series is already lost, his team will now focus on trying to win the third test because a win against the No. 1-ranked side would provide a major confidence boost.

Kohli said Jadeja brings great value to the side in all departments of the game. "Pujara's game has gone to another level".
