Mobile US cuts unlimited plan price for over-55s

T-Mobile introduces #Unlimited55 plan for everyone over 55 y.o. 2 lines of unlimited data for just $60

For that price, you'll get unlimited everything - talk, text and data - plus benefits like unlimited texting and an hour of free Wi-Fi while flying and unlimited text and data roaming overseas.

T-Mobile US has an offer for older mobile-phone users with no kids at home - two lines and unlimited data for $60 a month. In a statement, T-Mobile CEO John Legere said the new Unlimited 55+ plan "recognizes how boomers and beyond actually use their smartphones". The carriers' insulting "senior plans" come with dumbed down phones and even more dumbed down plans, and the carriers give empty nesters no choice but to pay almost 60% more per line when the kids move out and off the wireless plan.

T-Mobile (TMUS) has announced a new unlimited data plan which will cost $60 a month, plus taxes and fees, for customers aged 55 and up.

T-Mobile said there are 93 million over-55s in the USA, and 74 percent of these have a smartphone.

It's hard to argue with accusations of "senior" AT&T and Verizon plans patronizing today's "modern, mobile adults", who like to spend nearly the same amount of time on their smartphones as "Gen Xers and Millennials". It aims to provide them with a proper cellphone plan equipped with unlimited data and more compatible with modern devices. Additional lines cost Dollars 10 for the first and USD 5 for any more. It does require an autopay feature, or there's an additional $5 per month fee.

There is some fine print to be aware of with T-Mobile's new plan.

In true Magenta fashion, the carrier doesn't miss an opportunity to take a jab at rival AT&T, which offers a $29.99 per month per line plan called Senior Nation.

If your ID does, in fact, state that you are 55 or older, then you stand to save a fair amount of money on T-Mobile's unlimited plan.
