PlayStation 4 Firmware Update 5.0 Will Add 1080p Twitch Streaming, Other Improvements

PlayStation 4 firmware update 5.0 will add 1080p60 Twitch streaming

The Playstation 4 5.0 update to the console's firmware is nearly upon us, and Playstation has said that there are going to be a number of improvements such as allowing streaming on Twitch at 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second, interface improvements, and more to improve the content sharing experience for gamers.

This way folks won't have to send a friend request to be verified, and it won't affect friend limits.

Other top-line changes include an overhaul of your console's master/sub account system, the ability to follow any user, and the addition of notifications to the PS4's quick menu. Anything you or a followed user shares thus gets broadcasted to followers.

Next is the changes to following user accounts, which is now limited to only official or developer accounts.

As of yet, we don't know when firmware update 5.0 will arrive.

You will be able to choose if you only want existing friends or anybody to follow you.

Why the change? Sony's documentation states this is to "encourage more sharing of content and more interactions". To help manage family accounts, there will be a new PC/smartphone web app.

System notification will be visible on the Quick Menu, which will omit the need to return to the PS4 Home screen to check on notifications.

More options will be made available for those with sub or family accounts. This means you can quickly check the progress of downloads/uploads.

The update is also going to include several minor changes such as support for additional languages and more.

Behind-the-scenes support for bundle and compilation discs, with or without add-ons, and discs which support games and add-ons (such as a "Game of the Year Edition"), which do not require developers rework any code.

Details about the PlayStation's upcoming firmware version 5.0 have leaked ahead of the software's actual launch, tipping console owners about the features and tweaks they can expect in the near future.
