Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Aug 9: The Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday said that the three militants who were gunned down in the ongoing Tral encounter today were members of Zakir Musa group.

An unruly mob held protest demonstrations and indulged into the disruption of the operation by security forces.

The fire was returned by the troops and in the ensuing gunfight, three militants were killed, the official said.

The death of suspected militant sparked clashes between Indian forces and residents of the area near the town of Tral, where locals threw stones and shouted slogans against India. "The entire area was cordoned off and the hiding terrorists fired upon them".

Identities of the slain civilians were being ascertained at the time this report was published.

"The three terrorists have been identified as Ishaq Ahmad from Batagund (Tral), Zahid Ahmad from Nowdal (Tral) and Altaf Ahmad from Shopian", he said. He also informed that two rifles and one pistol have been recovered from the encounter site.

Mohd Ishaq Bhat was involved in firing upon police personnel HC Ab Gani Bhat resulting in his grievous injuries.

Zahid Bhat had earlier hurled a grenade on a CRPF team. They were also involved in various grenade attacks in South Kashmir.

"Ansar-Gazwatul Hind headed by Zakir Musa has been created to divide Kashmir nation".

However, they recently switched over to Zakir Musa's group.

A 16-year-old youth identified as Mohammad Younis sustained critical pellet injuries in the security forces firing.
