Deposed Pakistani Prime Minister Continues March Toward Lahore

Ruling was designed for the sole purpose of disqualification claims the ousted premier

Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif started a supporters' rally following the Supreme Court's decision to remove him from office, local media reported Wednesday.

He said that ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif is making fun of the state institutions.

Addressing Nawaz Kaira said that he was sent home by a bench of the apex court that comprised five judges. "I believe the people of Islamabad and Rawalpindi should be congratulated for having stood by Nawaz Sharif", he said.

"Does Pakistan's elected prime minister deserve to be removed in such an insulting manner?" he asked.

He said that most of the PML-N members were of the opinion that party be handed over to Shahbaz Sharif.

Meanwhile, in another challenge to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League party, firebrand opposition cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri returned home after mostly living overseas amid pending court-cases against him in Pakistan. Sharif is going to go to his hometown of Lahore via the GT Road in the form of a rally, where he will be addressing his supporters at different points during the journey.

Pakistan will celebrate 70 years of independence from British rule on August 14, but the country has never had a full term prime minister with numerous governments being interrupted by military coups, judicial disqualification, or presidential decree. "It is the linchpin of the democratic order and oxygen for political parties", he said.

The PTI leader further stated that PML-N is not allowing Shehbaz Sharif to take the reigns of the party.

Sharif travelled from the garrison city of Rawalpindi to Ayub Park with his convoy but then separated from the other vehicles shortly after 2 pm.

Sharif, 67, embarked on a roadshow from Islamabad to his ruling party's stronghold Lahore yesterday in a show of strength ahead of the crucial general elections next year.

On Monday, dozens of people were wounded when a truck exploded near a Lahore market which falls along the planned route for Sharif's rally, rescue officials told Al Jazeera. Sharif made the remarks just before leaving for Lahore, where he will hold a huge rally.

Sharif's travel plan has upset his rival Imran Khan, who in a press conference, has alleged that Sharif was disgracing the court by challenging its decision through the roadshow.
