Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vents about Trump's 'excessive expectations' regarding legislation

For the second time in as many days, President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Thursday to chide Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell about the federal health care law.

"I like Mitch", Graham continued, "but for eight years we've been saying we're going to repeal and replace Obamacare".

Yet by antagonizing Mr. McConnell, the president's often inscrutable Senate partner in conservative policy making, Mr. Trump risks upending an already charged relationship with lawmakers who have joined him in this shotgun marriage of unified Republican government.

"Now our new president has of course not been in this line of work before".

Those expectations, the Republican leader continued, made things more hard for enacting the GOP's legislative agenda, primarily repealing Obamacare.

Speaking to reporters at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, where he is spending a working vacation, Trump was asked if McConnell should stand down.

On Thursday, Trump's main mainstream media ally Fox News joined the president in lashing out at McConnell and congressional Republicans.

Trump had repeatedly used Twitter to pressurise McConnell to find votes to repeal the health care bill.

Mueller's investigation of Trump is going too far
The meeting took place in Trump Tower in NY and records indicate the President was in the building at the time. It's yet another example of Congress putting its faith somewhere besides with Trump.

McConnell said people think Congress is underperforming partly because "artificial deadlines, unrelated to the reality of the complexity of legislating, may not have been fully understood".

They spent the end of July haggling over details, but recessed at the beginning of August when it became clear they did not have a consensus.

"It failed by one vote even on a scaled down repeal", the source said.

Republicans' plans to repeal and replace ObamaCare collapsed in the Senate last month.

Trump elevated Neil Chatterjee, McConnell's longtime energy adviser, to head the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC, for at least the next few weeks. McConnell's message to his president, knocked on his heels after a major legislative defeat, is "This time, we'll do it my way". As far as finding a way to actually cover all Americans or implement measures to lower the world's highest prices for health care?

"Replacing Obamacare ... may take three or four or five years and it may take 10 or 12 different bills", Gingrich said.

Analysts suggest the fight could be damaging to the GOP agenda push.

"The Senate has a longer job guarantee than Trump", the analyst said in an email.
