Former premier's wife to stand in Pakistan parliament

PTI candidate Yasmin Rashid met Imran Khan after extensive door-to-door political campaign

She said that she is a hard-working woman and belongs to a middle class family whereas Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, who is being reported to have been nominated as PML-N's candidate for NA-120, belongs to the ruling Sharif family.

A Pakistani newspaper on Friday suggested to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to go for a snap election instead of taking out rallies denouncing the Supreme Court for unseating him on corruption charges.

In Thursday night's address to his supporters in Jhelum, a defiant Nawaz criticised the judiciary for forcing him to quit as prime minister, saying it was an "insult" to 200 million people of Pakistan that their elected leader was unceremoniously ousted with a single stroke of a pen.

He then added: "I have come out onto the streets with a case against your disqualification".

Large numbers of police were deployed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Thursday, as compared to the first day of the rally, but fewer cars were accompanying Sharif's procession. This tradition of sending premier home should be stopped now. He held a meeting with party leaders at Punjab House there, Rawalpindi, before starting his journey.

The former premier is now leading a procession from Islamabad to Lahore, the capital of Punjab province and the PML-N's seat of power.

"As the rally gets closer to Lahore, it will surpass all other jalsas of the past".

When asked about Kulsoom's candidacy, Rashid said that the difference between them is that she is a "hardworking middle-class woman who will represent the ordinary people of the country", whereas Kulsoom comes from what her daughter, Maryam Nawaz, has called the "ruling family".

Questions have also been raised about the absence of familiar PML-N faces from the rally, who could possibly have drawn a greater crowd of supporters than relatively new faces such as Talal Chaudhry and Daniyal Aziz.

"The Supreme Court should do justice to Sharif and restore him", he told AFP.

Many lining the route had on Wednesday voiced frustration with Pakistan's political elite-but in Jehlum on Thursday, Sharif found support.
