North Korea Threat Will Be Great For Guam's Tourism Industry

People in the tiny pacific island of Guam say they're afraid of being caught in the middle of escalating tensions between the U.S. and North Korea

"Don't worry about a thing", responded Trump. "All over the world they are talking about Guam, and they are talking about you".

"You know, they're showing so much, it's such a big story in the news and it just looks like a attractive place", he says.

Calvo concurred, giving Trump a tourism pitch and describing it as "paradise".

Guam made headlines last week after North Korea said it might target United States bases in the small territory. "We've got 95 per cent occupancy and after all this stuff comes down we're going to have 110 per cent occupancy".

Guam Homeland Security and Office of Civil Defense released a fact sheet on how to survive a nuclear attack via their social media on Thursday, CNN reported.

President Donald Trump told the governor of Guam, with the Pacific island in North Korea's nuclear crosshairs, that he was poised to become "extremely famous" and tourism to the island would be boosted. If people are caught outside, "do not look at the flash or fireball - it can blind you".

"Lie flat on the ground and cover your head". "Fallout radiation loses its intensity fairly rapidly".

While Calvo told Trump that he has "never felt more safe or so confident with you at the helm", Guamanian authorities were busy prepping for the worst.

Trump says he has yet to speak with the governor of the territory, but says, "I feel that they will be very safe, believe me".

"We are the best in the world by a factor of five", he says. "The previous three presidents were not able to find an adequate solution [to the North Korea crisis], so he can't be blamed for all this".

Tension in the region has risen since North Korea carried out two nuclear bomb tests past year and two intercontinental ballistic missile tests in July. He also boasted about the US' nuclear arsenal on Wednesday before adding that "hopefully we will never have to use" nuclear weapons.
