US Forces Reject Civilian Casualties In Nangarhar Airstrike

US-led airstrike kills 16 civilians in eastern Afghanistan

The senior USA commander in Afghanistan, General John Nicholson, said the death of Abdul Rahman "deals yet another blow to the senior leadership" of ISIL's central Asian affiliate.

At least 16 civilians were killed in a US-led airstrike in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, the media reported on Friday. "He found out just like those before him that there are no safe havens in Afghanistan".

"The militants were observed loading weapons in to a vehicle and were under surveillance until the vehicle was destroyed by an airstrike", said Bob Purtiman, a spokesman for American operations in Afghanistan.

U.S. forces have regularly been targeting the Daish rebels in Afghanistan.

USA forces have made it a goal to defeat ISIS-K in Afghanistan this year.

Rahman's death comes a month after United States forces killed Abu Sayed, the head of the branch.

The U.S. military asserted that that strike, too, targeted fighters. "It was not a valley or a mountainous area".

Several senior members of Islamic State's central Asian affiliate were killed in a US air strike in Afghanistan, officials said on Sunday.

Despite the presence of thousands of foreign boots on the ground، Afghanistan has been rocked by an increase in terrorist attacks، some of them carried out by the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group mainly active in Nangarhar province.

No one knows who fired the mortars, villagers said.

Juma Gul Hemmat, Kunar's police chief, told VOA that the terror group has a presence in at least eight districts in Kunar.

Amongst the dead was the father of Fatima Qaderyan, captain of the Afghan all-girls robotics team that made headlines last month after managing to get U.S visas to participate in the International Robot Olympics for High School Students in Washington D.C.

US President Donald Trump has been skeptical about the military campaign in Afghanistan.
