'Blade Runner 2049' Prequel Short "2036: Nexus Dawn"

Blade Runner 2049 TV Trailers (video)

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Warner Bros. revealed more details of the timeline between the original Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. This no doubt has serious ramifications that will be crucial to the plot of Blade Runner 2049.

The new short film takes place in the year 2036. Created by marketing agency 3AM, a partner company to RSA Films, directed by Luke Scott (Morgan, "Meet Walter") and produced by RSA as part of Blade Runner 2049's marketing campaign, 2036: Nexus Dawn was filmed on set during the film's principal photography. It is called Nexus: 2036.

If it's not clear from the short, Jared's character has created a new model of replicant, the Nexus 9.

2019: Blade Runner Rick Deckard flees Los Angeles with a replicant named Rachael.

Wallace says in introducing a new Replicant creation, 'This is an angel and I made him, ' ordering the Replicant to cut himself with a piece of jagged glass.

The new short picks up Niander Wallace (Jared Leto) - who is presumed to be the villain of Blade Runner 2049 - mainly because he looks mysterious as heck.

As we find out in the short, the creation of replicants has been illegal since 2023. However, this short gives us more information about Leto's character: Niander Wallace.

Set thirty years after the events of the first film, "Blade Runner 2049" follows a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Gosling), who unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos.

We will soon have all of the answers when Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters on October 6, 2017.

Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, Ana de Armas, David Benson and Barkhad Abdi also star in the film which is directed by Denis Villeneuve.
