McCullers slams Rangers for refusing to swap series

The Astros have not been home at Minute Maid Ballpark since Tropical Storm Harvey made landfall on Friday night

Most of the city is underwater.

As the visiting team in the series, they had the least say in the matter.

The Astros and Rangers both relocated to Tropicana Field in Florida for this week's series, but many players' minds are understandably back home with their families, who are directly dealing with Harvey's repercussions.

Reid Ryan, Astros president, said the team asked its Texas neighbor to swap their two remaining home series.

"We went to the Rangers and said, 'Hey let's switch series". "We have families that are stuck, we have families that are in closets anxious about tornadoes, a lot of heavy hearts and that's not even counting what we don't know", Astros manager A.J. Hinch said after the win and prior to flying to Dallas instead of returning home. "They rejected that and didn't want to do that". The Rays, who this week are in Kansas City and Chicago as they conclude a three-city Midwest trip, don't play their next home game until September 4. The fact that the Rangers refused to go home and home with us, we had to look at all of our options that were out there.

Texas general manager Jon Daniels told reporters that the Rangers had concerns for their fans who had purchased tickets to the September 25-27 series. "That's an inaccurate portrayal".

"We were willing to play this series anywhere the Astros and Major League Baseball wanted, including here in Arlington". They would have had their say, within 24 hours of notification, that their tickets for the end of the month of September were now good for this week. The Astros flew to Anaheim to play the Angels over the weekend.

Daniels said the Rangers were trying not to become a distraction.

"The bigger issue, really the only issue, is what's going on in South Texas right now". As people return to their homes over the next few days, baseball will be there help you get through the tough time. "When you get to this level, you have to put those things out of your mind and concentrate on what you have to do, and that's play the game of baseball".

"We didn't think that playing six games in Arlington was fair to the competitive balance of the wild-card race, not to mention that if we're not able to play our games in Houston against the Mets that we would be having another trip", Ryan told the Chronicle. His new goal now?

The NFL Foundation will match Mr. McNair and the Texans' $1 million contribution to the United Way Relief Fund to address the immediate needs of those impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Thanks to Hurricane Harvey, there's now an actually I-45 rivalry between the Astros and Rangers.

All ticket, concessions and parking revenues from this three-game series are being donated to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
