U.S. orders closure of Russian consulate

Trump's Moscow project was abandoned last year – just before the presidential primaries began – because it lacked land and Russian permits

In a statement issued, the ministry explained that the Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke by phone with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Mattis stressed that Afghan forces will remain in the lead, with the extra USA troops taking a support role.

On Thursday evening, the USA announced new restrictions on the work of Russian diplomatic representations in the United States, according to which the General Consulate of Russia in San Francisco and consulates in Washington and NY will closed on September 2.

The Trump administration described its action as retaliation for the Kremlin's "unwarranted and detrimental" demand earlier this month that the USA cut its diplomatic staff in Russian Federation.

The state department said the u.s. actions were "in the spirit of parity".

Officials say they aren't expelling any Russian diplomats, but that the move is retaliation for Russia recently expelling United States diplomats, ignoring that the expulsions were themselves retaliation for the U.S. seizing a pair of vacation properties from Russia.

In December, the Obama administration had expelled 35 Russian diplomats for Russia's meddling in the 2016 US Prseidential electioons. In particular, Russian Federation has a compelling need to get USA acquiescence on a Syrian settlement that would leave Bashar al-Assad in charge of most of the country and would not only restore Russia's great power prestige in the Middle East, but, more practically, permit Moscow to begin withdrawing forces to be prepared for other contingencies in the Eurasian space.

The Russian envoy said that Moscow would respond without "hysterical outbursts".

Andy Murray will not be at Flushing Meadows
Lukas Lacko of Slovakia, who lost in qualifying, gets into the 128-man field as a "lucky loser", replacing Murray. On paper, the draw was very kind to Murray, and a quarter-final against Tsonga should hold no fears for the Scot.

This morning, the State Department ordered the Russian government to close its San Francisco Consulate, located at 2790 Green St.in Pacific Heights, by Saturday. The two annexes housed Russian trade missions.

BAL Analysis: Visa applicants may have to plan for significant initial delays in processing and await further details on how to reschedule their interviews and which consulates will assume jurisdiction over applications that had previously been submitted in San Francisco. Consular officials walked in and out of the building, and Russian citizens who had scheduled appointments said they were able to pick up or renew their passports. The U.S. late a year ago kicked out several Russians posted there, calling it a response to election interference.

"This was a decision made by the President", she said. "The United States is prepared to take further action as necessary and as warranted".

If that was ever the case, it doesn't appear to be so anymore, as the Trump administration announced Thursday that Moscow will be required to shut down diplomatic posts in several major American cities in a continued tit-for-tat of Cold War-esque maneuvering between the two nations.

"We must remember the number of times the Trump White House said "all options are on the table" over a variety of different problems that previously have been seen as diplomatic", Rattansi said. "I want to thank" Putin, Trump said, "because we're trying to cut down our payroll".

The US had to reduce its diplomatic staff by 755 people.

The reductions are having consequences for Russian Federation.
