Chelsea striker Diego Costa still to settle Conte differences

Eden Hazard Debuts the all-new Mercurial Vapor Flyknit Ultra and Recalls His Favorite Mercurial Moments

The Telegraph says the striker was holding out for a return to Atletico Madrid after falling out with Conte.

Atletico are under a transfer embargo until January and so Costa would be unable to play for Diego Simeone's team until the turn of the year.

Chelsea will return to Premier League action with a trip to 2016 champions Leicester City on Saturday 9 September.

Costa is now believed to be consulting with his lawyers, while Chelsea claim that he must return to fulfil his contractual obligations.

Costa alleged in an interview with Sportsmail that Conte ended his Chelsea career by text message and that he would be forced to train with the reserves if he returns.

Costa was expected to leave the club after being deemed surplus to requirements, but the striker failed to secure a transfer to his preferred Atletico Madrid. Of course, as we learned over the past three months and change, getting Diego Costa back to the Spanish capital from West London isn't quite that easy or straightforward. "Why won't they let me go if they don't want me?" In Spain you have time to think and keep hold of the ball, but over here, by the time you've got possession you've already taken a couple of kicks from opponents.

Spain take on Italy, Saturday evening at the Santiago Bernabeu as the global break allows players to take time off from their respective clubs.

Costa remains unhappy with a text message sent to him by the Italian while he was on global duty in May, stating that he is no longer welcome at the club, although Goal understands that the 28-year-old was previously told that he was considered surplus to requirements.
