Windows 10 Fall Creators Update launch date announced

Hands-on with IFA's mixed reality headsets

At the end of August, Microsoft has released a preview for their Windows 10 for PC.

The software upgrade, its fourth update, will be offered from October 17 to existing customers of Windows 10 running on more than 500 million devices, the company said.

This release should see Microsoft begin to release their major Windows 10 updates on a bi-annual occurrence post the Fall Creators Update.

Microsoft is introducing the new Fluent Design in this update, which adds some subtle design changes that should make for better performance and usability. That allows eye controllers to replace mouse and keyboard. As part of this effort, the first batch of Windows Mixed Reality headsets will be available on october 17. Notably, there are three ways in which Windows 10 increases its level of compatibility with Android and iOS devices. Media that'll work with this system includes photos, videos, music, 3D objects, and Inking. But it's not just any app. It could be called the successor of Windows Movie Maker.

Unleashing that creativity with new experiences, that is what propels us into the future.

Fixed an issue where the Windows Defender Security Center app icon was missing in taskbar when the app was open, as well in Start's all apps list.

It seems to borrow a little from Snapchat's augmented reality effects.

OneDrive Files On-Demand will store all of your data in the cloud and only download it when you actually want to use relevant files.

Microsoft announced the news at the IFA technology show in Berlin this week. It was previously codenamed Project Neon and is part of Microsoft's effort to leave the Metro user interface behind. Since it identifies as version 1709, many suggested that it would be released in September and not October 2017.

What's missing from the Fall Creators Update? If you're already a Microsoft Insider, you can install the latest build to test out these features.

Windows 10 will also add the OneDrive to the Photos App integration. Another feature that is delayed is the Clipboard feature, which allows users to copy data between phones and PCs.

Biometrics and AI have also been combined by Microsoft in a project it is working on with the BBC.

When will Fall Creators Update be out?
