Records of four million Time Warner Cable customers left unsecured

The 600GB worth of personal data was discovered last month by the Kromtech Security Center (hat tip, Gizmodo) while its researchers were investigating an unrelated data breach at World Wrestling Entertainment.

The repositories were linked to BroadSoft, a US-based company with offices worldwide that provides services to large communications companies including AT&T, Sprint and Vodafone.

The 4 million TWC records are not all tied to unique customers, meaning 4 million individual people were not exposed by the breach.

Charter Communications purchased Time Warner Cable previous year and renamed in Spectrum.

In a separate accident, files on thousands of Americans with high level security clearances were found on an unsecured Amazon server.

They discovered two repositories hosted using Amazon's S3 cloud storage service, neither requiring a password for access.

What We Learned From Michigan's 33-17 Win Over Florida
But things only got worse. "I think we have a chance to grow and I believe we will". "And we never had an answer". 2014 vs. Franks was replaced Saturday primarily to give a different look for Michigan's defense, not because of his performance.

"[The dump] contains more than 4 million records, spanning the time period 11-26-2010 - 07-07-2017, with Transaction ID, user names, Mac addresses, Serial Numbers, Account Numbers, Service, Category details, and more", Kromsoft writes in its security notice.

Charter acknowledged the event but said that it has "no indication that any Charter systems were impacted" in an emailed statement.

"We were notified by a vendor that certain non-financial information of legacy Time Warner Cable customers who used the MyTWC app became potentially visible by external sources".

Charter Communications - which acquired Time Warner Cable in 2016 and renamed it as Spectrum - said the exposed information was immediately removed after the discovery and the incident is now being investigated along with BroadSoft. To be on the safe side, though, Charter is recommending that MyTWC owners change their user names and passwords.

BroadSoft has hundreds of network operator customers, all of which will be wondering if any of their data is being held in exposed databases.

"We continue to work closely with our customers to ensure the privacy of their data and to assure them that their information and that of their end-users is secure", it added. "We apologize for the frustration and anxiety this causes, and will communicate directly to customers if their information was involved in this incident". "We immediately secured these Amazon S3 bucket exposures and are continuing to aggressively investigate these exposures and will take additional remedial actions as needed".
