Teen partygoer found dead in hotel's walk-in freezer

Investigators are trying to track down everyone who attended a party with Kenneka Jenkins

Martin said police initially told her Jenkins was intoxicated when she entered the freezer, that "freak accidents like that do occur".

"I believe someone in this hotel killed my child", said Martin.

A Facebook Live video appeared to show Jenkins sitting on a bed in a hotel room, surrounded by others, according to the Chicago Tribune.

While searching the hotel, staff found Jenkins in a freezer at around 12:24 a.m. Sunday.

A spokesman for the Rosemont police, Detective Joe Balogh, told The Washington Post on Monday that investigators are interviewing others who were with Jenkins at the hotel, and reviewing surveillance footage and various social media posts that have circulated since the incident.

"There is some construction activity where a new restaurant is being built, and (she was found) in that vicinity", Gary Mack, spokesman for the village of Rosemont, told the Tribune.

"They are leaving no stone unturned as far as trying to corral everyone they can and talk to them and interview them about what happened and what was going on that night", said Mack.

The video has been viewed millions of times and shared all over social media, and many believe some form of foul play happened in the room, however, police have yet to confirm this.

After searching for her in the hotel, the staff finally located her in an unused freezer on Sunday morning.

Jenkins' mother, Teresa Martin, reportedly got a call from her daughters' friends around 4 a.m. on Saturday in which they said they had lost track of Kenneka and left.

Martin is convinced that the delay in investigating her daughter's death could have made a difference.

An exit button inside the freezer was supposed to allow people to open the door if it shut behind them, but authorities found it sometimes malfunctioned, The Associated Press reported. "She was holding on to the wall", Martin said. The mother said that doesn't gel with suggestions she stumbled into the freezer on her own power. The title read, "Best friend of Kenneka Jenkins attempting suicide on camera". "When I used to break down and cry and want to give up, she would tell me she's got my back", Harris said.

"I know in the deep freezer at my job, you have to have some strength to yank the doors open".

Her body was discovered after an 11-hour search of the premises.

Another part of the investigation revolves around a now-trending Facebook live video seemingly shot in the hotel the night Jenkins went missing.

Kenneka Jenkins' body was found inside a walk-in freezer over the weekend.

Steven Shapiro, director of the hospitality and tourism law program at American University's Washington College of Law, said hotel managers are reluctant to intrude upon their guests' privacy, even when someone from the outside indicates there might be an emergency.

Police have also declined to disclose whether Jenkins' body showed signs of trauma.
