Knife-wielding man attacks Paris soldier, no injuries

BREAKING Knife-wielding man attacks soldier in Paris no injuries

"The man was arrested", Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly told Europe 1 radio following the attack, Reuters reported.

In April, a 39-year-old police officer was shot dead by an Isis supporter on the Champs Elysee, while in February another knife attacker was gunned.

A knife-wielding man attacked a soldier on patrol as part of an anti-terror operation in Paris but did not cause any injuries, police said.

The attack took place at around 6 a.m. local time at Châtelet, one of the city's main subway stations, said a spokeswoman for the police.

The soldier involved was with the Sentinelle force assigned to protect prominent sites after deadly Islamic extremist attacks in recent years.

This new attack "justifies what we want to do, that's to say make these (security) measures even more unpredictable, undetectable for potential attackers", she said.

On August 9, at least six French soldiers were injured, three of them seriously, when they were hit by a vehicle in a north-western Paris suburb.

"It is the proof of the professionalism and efficiency of the soldiers of Sentinel in this protection mission". The suspect was arrested hours after the incident on a motorway in northern France.

According to information from local media sources, citing the police services, the assailant, quickly neutralized by the soldier, was shouting remarks referring to Allah.

They were first deployed in November 2015 following a single night of violence by Islamic State suicide bombers that saw 130 people murdered in the French capital.
