Sensex, Nifty End Marginally Lower Ahead Of Fed Decision

Nifty surges to record high of 10,154.35 Sensex gains

Asian markets struggled ahead of the Fed meeting outcome slated later in the day, analysts said.

At 1 PM: Sensex was up by 6 points or 0.02% at 32,408.80 while the wider Nifty was down by 4 points or 0.04% at 10,143.50.

Indian equities continued to drop for the second day on Wednesday.

In contrast, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 32,467.10 points, traded at 32,414.09 points - up 11.72 points, or 0.04 per cent, from its previous close at 32,402.37. "Investors could now be eyeing GST rate revisions and updates on GST implementation in petroleum products to take the next crucial step", said Anand James, Chief Market Strategist, Geojit Financial Services Ltd.

Market heavyweight Reliance Industries rose over 1 percent after telecom regulator TRAI slashed interconnect charges to 6 paise from 14 paise now, a development that would benefit Reliance Jio. Shares of Bharti Airtel Ltd, Idea Cellular Ltd and Reliance Communications Ltd slumped 6.2%, 7.4% and 4.2%, respectively, while those of Reliance Industries Ltd hit a record high at Rs872.10 (up 3.8%) intraday on Wednesday.

In contrast, Dr Reddy's was the leader by rising 3.33 per cent, to Rs 2,313.60, followed by Tata Steel 1.64 per cent, to Rs 687.65 on unabated buying activity. Tata Motors Hindustan Unilever, ICICI and Sun Pharma fell up to 2 per cent.

Tata Steel advanced 1.4 percent after the miner entered into a joint venture with Germany's Thyssenkrupp to merge their European steel businesses. Sectoral indices led by capital goods, power, consumer durables, realty, metal, healthcare and oil & gas were trading in the positive terrain by gaining up to 0.95 per cent.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) remained passive as they sold shares worth a net Rs 1,719.62 crore.
