Riverdale Star Hospitalized After Car Accident

Riverdale Star Hospitalized After Car Accident

The accident comes less than a month before the second season premieres on October 11, and an insider said that representatives for Warner Bros. and key Riverdale cast members will discuss the incident and address safety concerns when it comes to long shoots.

The 20-year-old actor apparently fell asleep at the wheel while driving a 45-minute trip to his hotel after midnight and crashed into a light pole.

The New Zealand-born actor reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his rental auto into a lamp post, crushing the passenger side of the vehicle and rendering it completely "inoperable".

Fortunately, Apa is safe, but the conditions that led to his accident may be part of a wider problem. No word on Apa's health beyond the non-serious injuries in the initial report, or whether production was halted, but we've reached out to his reps and The CW for comment.

Essentially, the auto crash was considered to be a direct result of the demanding working environment.

Reports indicate Apa was taken to hospital and later released with no serious injuries.

Actor Cole Sprouse, who co-stars as Jughead, had reportedly planned to ride home with Apa that night, but backed out "at the last minute". Sprouse has reportedly asked that the Warner Bros. -produced series provides cast members with transportation for late shoots.

Riverdale films late at night and very early in the morning. A source says that the studio policy of providing a vehicle service or taxi - as well as a nearby hotel room - upon request to any cast or crew member was announced at the start of production this season and is reiterated periodically in notices attached to call sheets.
