U.S. bombers, fighters, stage show of force off North Korean coast

Kim Jong-un calls Trump ‘mentally deranged US dotard’ in response to UN speech

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump warned North Korea in his speech to the U.N. that the United States would "totally destroy" the country if threatened.

"His remarks which described the USA option through straightforward expression of his will have convinced me, rather than frightening or stopping me, that the path I chose is correct and that is one that I have to follow to the last".

The bellicose speech came after months of escalating tensions over advances in the rogue weapons programme operated by Pyongyang, which has defied tough sanctions to launch its sixth and largest nuclear test and to fire a series of missiles over Japan.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho, who had earlier compared Mr Trump's speech to "the sound of a barking dog", has warned that Pyongyang could test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean in response to the United States president's threat.

Kim, who has traded ever-more heightened rhetoric with Trump, did not specify what his response would be.

Abe and Trump confirmed that the two countries will work together to press Pyongyang on this point, as well as to secure the release of US citizens held in North Korea.

Ri, who was talking to reporters in NY ahead of a planned address later this week, however also said he did not know Kim's exact thoughts, according to the report.

Mr Trump on Thursday signed a new order boosting sanctions against North Korea, where the United States treasury would target firms and financial institutions doing business with Pyongyang.

The Pentagon said no other United States fighters or bomber aircraft have flown so far north of the Demilitarized Zone off North Korea's coast in the 21st century.

"We must prevent the goods, funds, people, and technology necessary for nuclear and missile development from heading to North Korea", he said.

At a Security Council meeting later Thursday, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was to push for strict enforcement of a new raft of worldwide sanctions targeting North Korea's exports and its energy supplies.

"That will be the president's decision", Tillerson said.

China also will ban textile imports from the North, the ministry said.

But the official from the South Korean agency said the analysis of seismic waves and the lack of sound waves clearly showed that the quake was not caused by an artificial explosion.

Kim Jong Un of North Korea, who is obviously a madman who doesn't mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!

China accounts of about 90 percent North Korea's trade, according to The Associated Press. Two missiles fired by North Korea in recent weeks flew over Japan.

The CTBTO, or Comprehensive Test-Ban Treaty Organization, which monitors nuclear tests, and officials of the South Korean meteorological agency also said they believed it was a natural quake.
