Police say gunman captured after opening fire at church

Nashville-shooting

A gunman opened fire at a church in Antioch on September 24, 2017, killing one person and injuring eight others, including himself.

Authorities say the gunman had pulled up to Burnette Chapel Church of Christ, exited his vehicle, and shot a woman in the parking lot.

As the gunman opened fire inside the church, one member, who was not identified, confronted the shooter and was "pistol whipped", Aaron said. All of the wounded have been transported to area hospitals.

Most of those victims were older adults, investigators said.

Few details have been released and the story is still developing.

A Nashville police spokesman didn't immediately answer a telephone call or respond to an email on the shooting.

According to Fox News, police said a suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

Police said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Antioch is part of the Nashville metropolitan area and lies along Interstate 24 southeast of the city. Two other victims were taken to Skyline Medical Center.

According to the Nashville Fire Department's twitter account, eight people were wounded, including the shooter.

The church is located outside of Nashville. A dispatcher quoted by the Tennessean newspaper said the scene was still active.
