Eman Ahmed World's heaviest woman passes away in Abu Dhabis

Since Abdul Atti reached Burjeel Hospital in April "bedridden" from Mumbai's Saifee Hospital in India, where she underwent weight loss surgery, she was under the supervision of 20 medical experts.

Eman, who weighed almost 500 kg at the beginning of this year had been airlifted to Mumbai's Saifee Hospital in February and underwent a weight loss procedure - Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery - performed by a team of doctors led by bariatric surgeon Dr Mufazzal Lakdawala.

In May, Ms Ahmed was transported to Abu Dhabi for further operations.

Eman was later transferred to Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi. "We are happy that we did bring her weight down", he had said in response to the family's charges.

A doctor from the Saifee team that operated on her said without surgery, it was a lose-lose situation.

However, later Eman's sister Shaaima Selim alleged on social media that the patient was not treated for weight loss properly and her health had deteriorated at the privately-owned hospital in Mumbai. According to her family, Abdel Aaty had completed 25 years without leaving her home prior to traveling to India as she weighed 500kg. They say she had been heavy from the moment she was born, and she lost the ability to walk when she was just 11. She suffered a stroke and, unable to move or communicate, her weight increased to more than 1,000 pounds. El Aty celebrated her birthday last month with her family and doctors by her side. Doctors said she had developed an infection, and septicaemia worsened her condition.

She shed 100kg after bariatric surgery.

The 36-year-old Egyptian, estimated to be world's heaviest woman until January this year, was bed-ridden for last three years.
