Amadeus that provides the Altea software, used by around 125 airlines, has confirmed a "network issue that is causing disruption".

"Technical teams are working on the problem, services are gradually being restored", it is reported to have said.

Airports around the world were affected by a massive computer outage Thursday with caused delays for travelers in several countries.

Changi Airport, in a Facebook post, explained that the check-in procedure may take longer as manual boarding passes had to be issued to travellers.

Paris, Zurich and Frankfurt airports said they had suffered problems with computer systems, but they had been quickly resolved.

Virgin Australia has not been affected, as it uses a different check-in system. "As far as we know, there are now no delays or affected flights".

In response to the BBC, Amadeus explained that a "network issue" caused the disruption. Dublin airport said its systems were down for 12 minutes, while Manchester in northern England reported a 15-minute failure.

The company issued a statement: "Amadeus can confirm that our systems are recovered and are now functioning normally".

Press handlers for Gatwick, Washington (DC) Reagan International Airport and Changi in Singapore confirmed some of the airlines operating on their runways had been affected by the outage. British Airways CEO and Chairman Alex Cruz apologized to inconvenienced passengers.
