North Korean diplomat in Russian Federation for talks on US

DPRK diplomat leaves for Moscow for talks with Russia

Moscow said it is willing to work with Pyongyang towards a peaceful resolution of the nuclear tensions after a meeting between Russian and North Korean officials in Moscow on September 29, 2017.

The ministry's Mikhail Ulyanov said the country was working "behind the scenes" to find a political solution, but admitted the use of sanctions against North Korea is nearly exhausted.

A senior North Korean official in charge of USA affairs embarked her Russian Federation trip on Monday, Pyongyang's state media reported, amid escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula over the North's nuclear program.

Choe Son-hui, director-general of the North American section of North Korea's foreign ministry, met with Russia's ambassador-at-large Oleg Burmistrov.

Referring to the talks, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert told a regular press briefing on Thursday: "I can't see that as a bad thing". "If Russia can be successful in getting North Korea to move in a better direction, we would certainly welcome that". Pointing to the sixth nuclear test by North Korea, International Atomic Energy Agency director Yukiya Amano expressed fear on the country making "very rapid progress".

In a show of force on Saturday, U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer bombers escorted by fighters flew east of North Korea.

"However, it does not necessarily share the exact same approach".

Rep. Woo Sang-ho, a former floor leader of the ruling Democratic Party, also said in a radio interview that military tensions on the peninsula are at the highest-level since the Korean War and the recent USA flying of U.S. B-1B Lancer bombers near the North fueled the tensions.

Russian Federation has been quietly aiding North Korea via a web of shell companies on the border with the Stalinist state.

Russian Federation has been wary of US flights of strategic bombers over the peninsula, Tass news agency reported.
